L’Escape Hotel Seoul Review: Myeongdong French Boutique Stay

Hello! If you’ve been hunting for a hotel staycation in Myeongdong, there’s one hotel you’ve almost certainly come across: L’Escape, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Seoul Myeongdong ✨ But even after searching for L’Escape Hotel Seoul reviews, it’s surprisingly hard to work out which room to pick and whether breakfast costs extra. So in this L’Escape Hotel Seoul review, I’ve put the rooms, breakfast, dining and the downsides all in one place.

Let me start with the bottom line of this L’Escape Hotel Seoul review. The hotel is a 1-minute walk from Exit 7 of Hoehyeon Station, and it even has a one-MICHELIN-star restaurant 🍷 On the flip side, there’s no pool, and toothbrushes, toothpaste and razors cost extra. The smallest room, the Classic, has no bathtub, so if you’re two, I’d go for the Amour room, which has one. It’s also worth knowing up front that the lighting is on the dim side throughout.

Location & check-in — which Hoehyeon Station exit is closest?

It’s Exit 7 of Hoehyeon Station on Line 4. From the exit, the hotel is just a 1-minute walk 👍🏻

Some older directions mention Exit 6, but the current official guidance is Exit 7. The station entrance is right in front of the hotel, so it’s easy even with a suitcase in tow.

Check-in — what’s the lobby like?

The whole hotel takes its inspiration from a French aristocrat’s mansion. The interiors were designed by French designer Jacques Garcia. It’s done in 19th-century Belle Époque style, so expect symmetry, antique furniture and floral arrangements everywhere ✨

A soft rose scent drifts through the hotel, and the signature fragrance is called ‘La Rose Poésie’ 🌹 The 7th floor has lots of photogenic spots, so it’s worth a little wander before or after check-in 📸

The staff are generally friendly. That said, around 3 pm, when check-ins pile up, you may have to wait, so keep your plans for that day relaxed.

Rooms — Classic, Amour or Secret: which one should you pick?

If you’re two and want a bathtub, go for the Amour. If you’re three or traveling with children, it’s the Secret. If you also want the lounge breakfast and happy hour, you’ll need a Junior Suite or above.

Classic room — shower booth instead of a bathtub

If it’s your first visit, your biggest dilemma will probably be the Classic versus the Amour, weighing price against a bathtub. The Classic is the most compact at 27㎡, with a shower booth instead of a bathtub. There’s also a barrier-free Classic King, though its layout may differ from the standard rooms.

This is what the Amour room looks like 🩷 At 32㎡, it has a bathtub, and a French-patterned partition separates the bedroom from the bathroom.

If you’re two and looking for a room with a bathtub, the Amour is the smallest option.

The Secret is 40/41㎡ and sleeps up to 3 adults. Its floral canopy headboard is the highlight.

Atelier Junior Suite — bathtub behind the mirrored folding door

The Atelier Junior Suite is the hotel’s signature room, with embroidered wallpaper and a mirrored folding door ✨ The Corner Junior Suite’s highlight is its corner city view. For the other rooms, there’s no official information on how the view differs by floor, so it’s worth requesting a high floor when you book.

Room lighting is dim overall. Soft lighting is part of the hotel’s concept, so for couples who love the mood, it’s actually a plus. If doing your makeup, taking photos or working on a laptop matters to you, though, do keep this in mind.

Bathroom & amenities — why do toothbrushes cost extra?

Because of Korea’s Ministry of Environment rules on single-use items, toothbrushes, toothpaste and razors cost extra. Bath bombs are charged separately too. Be sure to pack your own toothbrush and toothpaste in a small pouch ‼️

Here’s what else is provided. If a bathtub is a must, choose the Amour or above.

  • Bathroom: rain shower, bidet, bathrobe, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body lotion and soap, mouthwash, cotton swabs and shower cap (rooms with a bathtub also get a loofah)
  • Bedroom: Ace Heritz bed, goose-down comforter and pillows, air purifier, Bluetooth speaker
  • Minibar: Nespresso Vertuo coffee machine, complimentary bottled water and tea (what else is free may vary by booking package)
  • Free to borrow (on request): crib, bed rail, children’s slippers, steam iron

※ Bath products that stain the tub or make it slippery aren’t allowed.

Breakfast & lounge — where is L’Escape’s breakfast, and how much is it?

Breakfast is served at La Maison Boutique on the 7th floor from 7 am to 10:30 am. It’s KRW 55,000 per adult (tax included) 🥐

It’s a semi-buffet with live stations, serving made-to-order dim sum, wonton noodles and egg dishes, plus Western, Korean and Chinese dishes and French-style pastries. The spread isn’t huge, but each dish is of good quality, so it suits anyone who cares more about taste than variety 😋

💡 Tip! Breakfast can’t be reserved, so you may have to wait in line when it’s busy. Go before 8:30 am ‼️ Breakfast isn’t available through room service.

✅ Is breakfast included? Suites: yes, as part of the lounge benefits. Classic, Amour and Secret: book a rate with breakfast or pay on site

Restaurants & bar — can you dine at L’Amant Secret on a Monday?

No, L’Amant Secret is closed on Sundays and Mondays. If you’re checking in on a Monday, have dinner elsewhere and save L’Amant Secret for Tuesday lunch ‼️

L’Amant Secret holds one star in the MICHELIN Guide Seoul & Busan 2026 ✨ That makes 6 years in a row since 2021. Dinner last orders are at 7:30 pm, so it wraps up earlier than you might expect.

There’s a dress code, too: sweatpants, slippers, sandals and men’s shorts aren’t allowed. Children under 8 can’t enter.

Palais de Chine, 6th floor

Palais de Chine is a modern Chinese restaurant on the 6th floor. Its 1930s Shanghai chinoiserie concept gives it a distinctive atmosphere. It also has private rooms, so it works well for group dinners 🥢 Tucked inside is the Tea Salon, a lovely spot for dessert and tea.

Marque d’Amour, 26th floor

Marque d’Amour is a cocktail bar on the 26th floor, the very top of the hotel 🍸 It was founded by world-renowned bartenders Simone Caporale, Monica Berg and Alex Kratena.

For a special meal, I’d pick L’Amant Secret; for a relaxed meal with a group, Palais de Chine; and for a quick drink, Marque d’Amour. With children, Palais de Chine is the easier choice than L’Amant Secret, which has an age limit.

💡 Tip!

  • Hotel guests get 10% off food and drinks. This may vary by menu and promotion.
  • You can’t enter the restaurants in pajamas, a bathrobe or room slippers.
  • In-room dining runs 24 hours, with 32 dishes covering Korean, Western, Chinese, vegan and desserts 🛌

Facilities — does L’Escape Hotel have a pool?

No. There’s no pool or sauna; instead, there’s a fitness center and a spa on the 8th floor.

If a pool staycation is what you’re after, that might be a letdown. If you’re here for Myeongdong shopping and food, you probably won’t miss it much.

Fitness center, 8th floor

⏰ Fitness center: 8th floor, 24 hours (closed for maintenance at 12 pm and 6 pm)

✅ Who can use it: free for hotel guests, age restrictions apply

※ The age requirement differs between the hotel’s notices, so check with the hotel if you’re bringing children.

📌 Good to know: workout clothes and sneakers required, Technogym equipment, water and towels provided, sneakers available to borrow from the 1st-floor concierge (limited numbers)

The fitness center is on the compact side, which makes it best for a light workout.

⏰ Spa (paid): Swiss Perfection spa, 8th floor, 10 am–9 pm, open every day, 📞 02-317-4006

Children & dogs — can they stay too?

Yes, both can stay. The conditions are fairly detailed, though, so if you’re traveling with kids or a dog, be sure to check the points below ‼️

✅ Traveling with children

  • The main guest must be an adult; minors can stay when accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • Up to 2 children aged 12 and under stay free when using the existing bedding.
  • Guests beyond the standard occupancy cost KRW 110,000 per person per night (charged from age 13).
  • An extra bed is KRW 55,000 per night.

※ The Classic and Amour take 2 adults at most, so with children, the Secret or above is the right fit. Happy hour is off-limits to under-19s, and L’Amant Secret to children under 8.

🐕 Traveling with a dog: small dogs up to 10kg, max. 2 per room, dog-friendly rooms on the 9th floor, advance request required

💰 Dog fee (VAT included, charged once per 5 nights): 1 dog KRW 110,000 / 2 dogs KRW 176,000

※ Dogs aren’t allowed in shared facilities outside the dog-friendly rooms.

Getting around — what can you reach on foot?

Namdaemun Market is about 200m away, practically on the doorstep, and Lotte Department Store Main Branch is 550m away. Even the Myeongdong shopping streets are less than a 10-minute walk 🍃

Shinsegae Department Store Main Branch is so close that the official bus directions list a stop right in front of it 🛍️

If you have time to spare before check-in, Namdaemun Market is just the right distance for a quick wander. The 6001 and 6015 airport buses also stop at Namdaemun Market / Hoehyeon Station, which makes getting around easy. During the turndown service, staff can apparently suggest running and walking routes or local restaurants, so do ask ✨

Dinner at Palais de Chine or the Tea Salon on the 6th floor, drinks at Marque d’Amour on the 26th floor, then breakfast on the 7th floor the next morning: your whole stay flows without leaving the hotel.

L’Escape Hotel Seoul review: final verdict — is it worth it?

To sum up my L’Escape Hotel Seoul review: it’s 1 minute from Hoehyeon Station and has a 2026 one-MICHELIN-star restaurant and a cocktail bar, so you can fill a whole day without leaving the hotel ✨ If I were choosing, I’d go for the Amour for a quiet day for two, and the Atelier Junior Suite when I wanted to enjoy the lounge as well.

I’d recommend it for ✅

  • Couples looking for a special-occasion staycation in Myeongdong
  • Anyone who wants fine dining without leaving the hotel
  • Travelers who plan to explore Myeongdong and Namdaemun Market on foot
  • Anyone traveling with a dog of 10kg or under

You might want to think twice if you’re one of these.

  • Your main goal is a pool staycation
  • Bright lighting matters to you
  • You prefer minimalist interiors

Checking in on a Monday? Book L’Amant Secret for Tuesday lunch 💡

I hope this L’Escape Hotel Seoul review helps a little as you decide where to book. Opening hours and conditions can change, so please double-check before you book. Enjoy your hotel staycation, everyone ❤️‍🔥
